About Mobile Info Team

Mobile Info Team (MIT) is determined to work towards a future where people on the move in Greece have fair access to asylum and are treated with the respect their humanity deserves. We do this by providing people on the move with vital information and clarification about the asylum process and related procedures and actively advocating for the rights of people on the move.

We do this by:

  • Posts on Facebook: every week we share a post about different topics that are relevant for people on the move in Greece.

  • WhatsApp hotlines: people can ask us questions via WhatsApp (written or voice messages) in the following languages: English, French, Urdu, Arabic, Farsi/Dari and Kurdish.

  • Info Sessions: in person meetings to answer their questions.

  • Cases: legal assistance for longer-term, more complex cases by our lawyer and senior caseworkers.

  • Advocacy: we conduct research, collect testimonies, publish reports and actively advocate for the rights of people on the move.

About the role

In our work, we are in contact with people from various linguistic backgrounds. Our interpreter team is crucial for the services we provide by facilitating clear communication with our clients. As an interpreter you facilitate communication between team members of Mobile Info Team and clients by:

  • Providing written translation of text messages and documents

  • Providing spoken translation in the form of voice notes

  • Providing interpretation by phone or in person during info sessions or (online) appointments

  • Supporting with sending voice notes or written messages to clients

  • Reading and correcting texts on grammar, spelling and punctuation accuracy

What we are looking for

  • Professional proficiency in written and spoken (Native or C1) in Farsi and Pashto

  • Fluency in English language (Native or C1)

  • Digital skills: ability to work on a laptop and phone

  • Sensitivity in working with people on the move

  • Working experience in the humanitarian field or with people on the move is an asset

  • Previous experience with interpretation is an asset

  • Fluency in one or more of the following languages is an asset: Arabic, Dari, Urdu, Kurdish, Sorani, Kurmanji, Badini, French, Greek

What we offer

  • Compensation: 4 euro per hour

  • Working hours: 4-5 hours per day, Monday - Friday

  • Commitment: at least 3 months, preference will be given to candidates who are able to commit for longer. The first month is a trial period (to see if you like the work and to see if you are a match with the job and its tasks)

  • Start date: as soon as possible

  • Holidays: 2 days off per month, excluding Greek bank holidays

  • Location: Our office is based in Thessaloniki. Preference will be given to someone located in Thessaloniki, but working remotely might be a possibility
